Goings On

Hello again. It's been about two weeks since my last entry and figured it's time to do so again. Not much going on right now..pretty much all baseball. Jamie's first practice game is this Saturday, and then it will continue all the way through June, with a weeknight baseball game on occasion.

So, tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. I will be participating in Lent for the first time in years, but it feels good and right. I am contemplating on what to give up--I want to make sure it's a sacrifice and something that will help me remember what Lent represents. Anyhow, enough religion.

Cool thing that happened--on Feb. 11, Jim got to visit. He was in Modesto for work and had a free day to come and see us. He got to spend time with all of us, and Jamie had a good time.

Jamie is doing great at school. He is now in his own reading group. He informed the teacher he was bored and so he now reads the 1-3 grade book on his own (silently) while the other kids do out loud reading groups. Then he does his schoolwork and when the other kids are done, he reads what he's read to himself out loud to the teacher. He's much happier doing reading groups at school now since it's more of a challenge to him. He's also taken to reading to himself at home and I think it's great. He'll just bring his banana chair downstairs, grab a book, and start reading. He's also very excited to start chapter books. He thinks it will be cool to imagine yourself in different worlds and places.

Also, we celebrated Valentine's Day. I had gotten a few balloons for fun and attached them to a chair at the table and Jamie decided that was the Valentine's chair. So when we each opened our cards and gifts, we had to sit at the Valentine's chair. It was pretty fun. We all got some candy (of course!)--me, chocolate covered gummy bears; James, italian candies & gummy frogs; Jamie, a heart box with chocolates. Jamie also got a US puzzle and a Spiderman addition & subtraction book. Jamie made James & I each a card. James's had a grenade launcher. Jamie also made James a book about U.S. Army men fighting aliens. It was really sweet. James took it work along with his card. I got James a book (a new author to try) and he got me a beautiful silver cross. It was the sweetest thing because I had mentioned it awhile ago, and he remembered. It was a wonderful, unexpected gift. I love it.

Now, here's a couple of pictures that I thought were funny. They are, of course, pictures of Jamie. Jamie smiling like a crazy man and Jamie, as batman (in an undershirt, TMNT undies, and awesome blue socks)

Hello again. Time for my update.
Here are photos from Jamie's Pee Wee baseball tryouts.

He is on the Red Sox for the spring season. He had his first practice last Saturday and had a blast. It was nice to get back into the swing of things (no pun intended). It's amazing how much he has improved since last spring. He has quite the arm (in football as well) and was batting much better. He even hit a pop fly over the coach's head in practice-he was very excited about it. He's also getting better at catching-although that has never been his forte (as anyone who's played catch with him can attest).

Cool news-Grandpa Jim (James's dad) is coming out in a few days to visit. Turns out he'll be in Modesto for work so he's going to swing by and visit. Jamie's happy-he told me today that he'll be spending a lot of time with Grandpa Jim so James & I won't get to visit a lot. He definitely plans on monopolizing his time! :)

On another note, Jamie wants to get me a grenade launcher for Valentine's Day. I told him to just draw me one on a card--the things little boys come up with!

I'm going to try and get some video of Jamie reading to post on here. I tried earlier, but the video I have is too large. So my promise to all-I shall try! He's currently reading Level 2 & some Level 3 reading books (the kind you get at Borders, etc.). In math we're doing subtraction with numbers 1-10 and some teens. We're also working on telling time. He now knows that each number represents five minutes on the clock (and knows how many minutes in an hour) so we're starting to tell time. Which is good because he really wants a watch and I won't let him get a digital one.

So I don't have much else to say that I can think of, so I shall go for tonight. I hope everyone is doing well.

Take care.

Jamie's joke and Good Hair

So in this blog is a video of Jamie telling me two jokes he made up. Also, I have included two pictures of me with what has to be my best hair day in a long time:)

Like I posted earlier, Sarah got to come up this past weekend and hang out with us....I say us, but I really should specify--Jamie. He had a blast and enjoyed uninterrupted Aunt Sarah time. Here's a smattering of photos of them-one is making "bad guys" out of paper plates (to shoot later), one is of Jamie, his machine gun, and the fort they built, three are of Jamie & Aunt Sarah. Another cool thing-Aunt Sarah took Jamie on their first "Aunt & Nephew" outing. They went and saw Inkheart and got Mongolian BBQ & treats at the Sweet Factory. What a great weekend.

Also, Jamie is getting freckles (from the sun) and it is so cute-I'll try and get a picture when he gets more. Right now they're only visible up close due to the paleness.
